Illusion of Undefeat
Now all the truth is out, Be secret and take defeat From any brazen throat, For how can you compete, Being honor bred, with one Who were it proved he lies Were neither shamed in his own Nor in his neighbors' eyes; Bred to a harder thing Than Triumph, turn away And like a laughing string Whereon mad fingers play Amid a place of stone, Be secret and exult, Because of all things known That is most difficult. To a Friend Whose Work Has Come to Nothing ---William Butler Yeats
Defeat is not one of of the Five Stages of Unfuck, but it is the most difficult.
Because it is a reality you accept as a man bred to a harder thing than victory.
And most of us just never do.
You do not unfuck from your defeat by being undefeated.
Undefeated, like perfection, is an illusion.
On the battlefield, on the ball field, in the boardroom, in the bedroom.
The more deathless your victories, the more enslaving your looming defeat.
You'll be fighting until something-- old age, disease, the jab, accident, crime-- finally cuts you down. Because on a long enough timeline the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.
It’s In Our DNA
Men are particularly hardwired for defeat.
That's because upbringing, education, and conditioning drive us to play for bigger and bigger stakes-- sports, women, career, investments, family, talent, war, business, etc-- where defeat is always a very real outcome.
Feminists will criticize that as patriarchal. But when the shit hits the fan no one goes looking for a feminist.
As long as there is danger in this world, there is always defeat, and the risk of being zeroed out.
Globalism seeks to solve for this by manufacturing dangers seemingly out of the reach of mortal men--and women-- to defeat. Pandemics, climate change, systemic racism, mass migration, nuclear holocaust, etc.
And for which the only alternative is to become a serf--a footsoldier-- and trust in the One World Order. Because government has done the heavy lifting for you and de-risked your life of defeat.
You have to admire the power grab masquerading as high mindedness and empathy.
But it's all built on an increasingly teetering power grid which, when it collapses, will take all our manufactured crises down with it.
Leaving us with a pre-industrial patriarchy, piles of useless shit, and a sudden demand for heavy lifters. But let's keep that between ourselves for now.
State Of Mind Or Reality? Your Choice
Refuse to lose is just an opioid for keeping you in denial when you’re festooned with arrows, and run through with blades.
Defeat is always going to be there. As soon as you accept its reality, that’s when it stops being your state of mind. And the unfuck begins.
Eleven times out of ten, our first response to defeat is to yell FUCK! at the top of our lungs, and strive mightily to reverse the outcome. You unfuck from defeat by admitting you have been defeated. Because by admitting defeat you avoid disaster.
If that isn't clear, please review the foregoing Section Zero.
America has devolved into two feuding camps, neither of which will ever admit defeat. The Globalists will not admit defeat because Russia interfered in our elections. The Deplorables will not admit defeat because China interfered in our elections.
The news cycle has become a Looney Tunes series of increasingly cartoonish characters plotting increasingly spectacular and eventually deadly revenge upon each other. In 2016 the Deplorables came out of nowhere and swamped the vote. In 2020 the Globalists came out at 3AM and stopped the vote. And with the most important (and inconsequential) midterms of our lives in the rear view mirror, it’s on to 2024, where once more we're gonna fix everything. Just you wait and see.
Someday this war’s gonna end.
Someday we're all gonna be undefeated.
Keep marching, son!
Sure, you can be a footsoldier in their endless wars, but you must remember this: no one marches in your cause except you. And maybe a few friends following at a distance. Because they've got your back.
Asymmetric warfare at its finest.
How to unfuck? Take responsibility for your loss now to avoid disaster later. Even if you cannot see where it is your responsibility, take it anyway. I spent years hating a hijacker for what happened, when the fault— for her getting on that plane in the first place, and for my not getting back on that plane in the second place—was all mine.
Take the L to avoid the D
Because even if you could go back knowing what you know now and relive it all over again, the outcome would not change.
Your defeat would not be undone.
Not because you are fated, but because you are not unfucked.
Until you stop trying to relive, and start to unlive, you are just wandering around a battlefield in search of a prize that escaped you, or an acceptable replacement. And fighting anything for the hell of it.
Bred To A Harder Thing
That is what makes escaping your Defeat Space the hardest thing about the Journey to January 2.0.
Because you must escape. There is nothing, rational, sensible, noble or beautiful about Escape. You just do it. By whatever means possible. As soon as the opportunity presents itself.
It can be as simple as saying, Hey everyone, I fucked up. I’m outta here. Later!
Believe me, they are not going to miss you. May not even notice that you’re gone.
By taking responsibility for losses you still cannot fathom, you get to take credit for wins you cannot possibly foresee.
And you begin to end the unending war on your terms.
Stop Playing Injured. Get Off The Field.
Had I been able to make that leap of faith, my last chapter in life and this next one would have turned out a lot differently.
